Reading Hero: Linda Lang

Linda Lang is the Literacy Facilitator at ourBRIDGE for KIDS. ourBRIDGE for KIDS serves children who are new to the United States, mostly refugees and immigrants.

Lang leads the program’s effort to support the children’s English acquisition and improving their reading skills, from letter and sound recognition to fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation.

In 2016-2017, children received up to 33 hours of individual or small group tutoring. A service that is crucial for the students’ academic performance.

That year’s Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing administered by CMS, ourBRIDGE students exceeded the national growth expectations by an average of 37.9% in reading and 47.9% in math.

This year, Lang leads two other facilitators at our center, ensuring that every one of the 110+ children in grades K-7 from Merry Oaks Elementary, Winterfield Elementary and Eastway Middle, receive the encouragement and the time, one-on-one, that they need to succeed academically.
