Our Initiatives

Ready4K

Ready4K is a research-based text-messaging program for parents with young children, with advice and tips of reading skills for early childhood development and literacy.

Parents get age-appropriate facts and activity ideas sent to their phones each week, to help maximize learning opportunities in everyday life.

Read Charlotte introduced the program to Mecklenburg County in 2017. In 2020, we began partnering with Smart Start of Mecklenburg County on Ready4K, and Smart Start took the lead on the program.

A parent survey of Ready4K users found that 97% reported stronger relationships after using Ready4K activities, and 98% reported that Ready4K activities helped their children express and manage their feelings.
