Dorothy McGavran is a retired English professor from Queens University. She trained as an Augustine Literacy Project tutor last year, and began tutoring her first grade student twice a week last school year and all summer. With her loving persistence and patience, her student is making remarkable progress! He is truly excited about reading and writing! McGavran recently took on a 2nd student in need, and he too is excited about working with her and is already showing progress.
The Augustine Literacy Project team is so honored and humbled by her service to her students.
McGavran’s dedication, sense of humor, and patience are impacting two young boys for whom reading has been very difficult. They are experiencing success with her one-on-one attention to them. She truly exemplifies the Augustine Literacy Project motto “tutor one child, change two lives.”
She says that tutoring brings her great joy, and that is obvious when you see her with her students.
